Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace Privacy Policy
Last updated October 16, 2026
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace is an iPhone app for tracing pictures onto paper. It is made by Dang Nguyen. This page says what the app does with your information. The short version: your pictures never leave your phone, and the app collects nothing about you.
The camera
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace asks to use the camera the first time you open the trace screen or tap Take a photo. Tracing needs the camera. If you say no, you can turn it on later in Settings.
The camera view is shown live on your phone so you can see the paper under the picture. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace never sends it anywhere, and it saves it only when you record a time lapse (below).
During stand setup and when you trace with the phone in your hand, Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace looks at the camera view on your phone to find the edges of your paper. In hand mode, Apple's ARKit also follows the table surface on your phone so the picture stays on the paper. Nothing from this is kept.
If you take a photo in the app to trace, Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace uses it for tracing only. It does not save it to your photo library.
Your photos
When you choose a photo, the iPhone photo picker gives Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace only the photo you picked. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace cannot see the rest of your library and never asks to read it.
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace holds the picture in the app's working memory while you trace. It never saves a copy to your phone's storage.
Line art is made on your phone by a model built into the app. Dots are worked out on your phone from the light and dark parts of your photo. Your photo is not sent anywhere to make either one.
Your pictures are processed on your phone and are never uploaded. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace contains no code that sends a picture over the internet.
The pictures in the built in library come inside the app. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace does not download them.
Time lapse videos
A time lapse is recorded only when you tap Record. While it records, Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace writes frames from the camera view to a temporary folder inside the app on your phone.
When you stop, you choose Save to Photos or Discard. Save to Photos asks for permission to add the video to your photo library. That permission lets Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace add videos only; it cannot see your library.
Discard deletes the recording. Anything left over, for example after a crash, is deleted the next time you open the trace screen.
Motion sensors
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace reads your phone's tilt and movement to show the level guide and to tell you when the phone has been bumped. These readings are used on the phone right away and are never stored or sent.
Purchases
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and your Apple Account. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace asks Apple only whether you own Pro, and Apple does not share your name, email address or card details with us.
What stays on your phone
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace keeps a few small notes on your phone:
Whether you have finished stand setup, so the guide does not show every time.
Whether you last traced on a stand or in your hand.
Whether you have Pro, and for the yearly plan the date the current year ends, so Pro opens quickly at launch.
How many free line art pictures you have made, kept in the iPhone Keychain. It is never sent anywhere and is not copied to your other devices.
None of these notes leaves your phone. Deleting the app deletes the first three. The line art count stays in the Keychain after the app is deleted, so the free try is not reset by reinstalling; it holds only a number.
What we collect
Nothing. Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It contains no code from other companies that collects data.
If you have turned on "Share With App Developers" in your iPhone settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash and performance reports. They contain no photos and nothing that identifies you. You can turn this off in Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements.
Children
Onionskin: AR Drawing & Trace collects no data from anyone, children included. There is no account and no way to send pictures to other people from the app.
